BERNER CHEMICALS

TOWARDS THE SUSTAINABLE USE OF MAGNESIUM MINERAL RESOURCES

SAFE PRODUCTS, LOCAL PRODUCTION AND SECONDARY RAW MATERIALS

Berner Chemicals is a Finnish company operating in Kokemäki and a leading manufacturer of magnesium products. We have developed innovative processes that allow the use of reclaimed domestic raw materials currently sent as waste to landfill.

ENVIRONMENT AND COST-EFFECTIVENESS

The use of secondary raw materials is part of the sustainable use of mineral resources, protecting the environment and improving the overall economy. Our goal is a non-waste production by finding an end use for all fractions.

Working with our customers and suppliers we provide new solutions to the industry, creating a virtuous circle of improved economic and environmental efficiency.

PULP AND PAPER

Our main product, magnesium sulfate solution, is used as a fiber-protecting additive during the chemical bleaching of pulp.

FIRE PREVENTION

Crystalline magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is an environmentally friendly alternative to other flame retardants used in the production of cellulose insulation.

Magnesium sulfate and magnesium oxide are also used in the manufacturing of fire-resistant bricks.

SULPHUR REMOVAL

Power plants reduce their sulfur emissions with flue gas scrubbers, where sulfur can be removed as sulfate by using magnesium hydroxide. The resulting magnesium sulfate solution can be recycled. This conserves natural resources.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Magnesium hydroxide enables the selective recovery of metal residues from industrial waste streams for secondary use.
